The Powers of a Positive Attitude

October 28th, 2008 admin No comments

I am going to ask you to something very weird right now. First of all, I want you to listen to your thoughts. Now tell me, what thoughts fill your head? Would you label them as positive, or negative?

Now let’s say you are walking down the street with these thoughts. Do you think anyone who would meet you would be able to tell you what’s on your mind?

The answer to number one is up to you. But, the answer number two can be pretty generic. Although people will not be able to tell you exactly what you think, they will more or less have an idea of how you are feeling.

Here’s another question. When you enter a party filled with friends, do they all fall silent as if something terrible has happened? Or does everybody in the room perk up as if they are waiting for something exciting to happen?

You know what? The answer to all these depends on your frame of mind - your attitude.

Thoughts are extremely powerful. They affect your general attitude, and the attitude you carry reflects on your appearance too – unless, of course, you are a great actor.

And it doesn’t end there. Your attitude can also affect the people around you. The type of attitude you carry depends on you. It can be either positive or negative and only you can choose which one you would like to have.

Positive thoughts have a filling effect. They are admittedly invigorating. Plus, the people around the person carrying positive thoughts are usually energized by this type of attitude.

Negative thoughts on the other hand have a sapping effect on other people. Aside from making you look gloomy and sad, negative thoughts can turn a festive gathering into a funeral wake! I remember in my old sales job. I used to sell gas and electricity door-to-door.

Our day used to start by going out in teams of 4-8 to various neighbourhoods, before splitting up to work individually. Every few hours we would all meet up to discuss our progress - and any positives and negatives we were experiencing. Our boss used to tell us every day to distance ourselves from anyone in our ‘team’ who was having a negative day, or was showing signs of a negative attitude.

The reason he made this such an important issue was simple; any negativity in this job would spread throughout the team. Simply put, negative people do not sell. For a person to buy something, they need to like the sales person, and trust them. It’s very hard to like a negative person, let alone become excited enough about the product to make a purchase (or, in this case, change energy supplier). One negative person could easily spread this attitude throughout the group - and destroy everybody’s chances of ‘making a sale’.

This translates easily into everyday life. A positive attitude attracts people, while a negative attitude repels them. People tend to shy away from those who carry a negative attitude.

We can also define attitude as a way of looking at the world. If you choose to focus on the negative things in the world, more or less you have a negative attitude brewing up. However, if you choose to focus on the positive things, you are more likely carry a positive attitude, and enjoy life as a result.

You have much to gain from a very positive attitude. For one, studies have shown that a positive attitude promotes better health. Those with this kind of attitude also have more friends. Being positive also helps you to handle stress and problems better than those who have a negative attitude.

A positive attitude begins with a healthy self-image. If you love the way you are and are satisfied, confident, and self-assured, you also make others around feel the same way. Going back to the sales job scenario, by sounding confident in yourself and the product you are selling you install confidence in the prospective customer too - and they are much more likely to buy from you.

A negative attitude, on the other hand, has the opposite effect. So, carrying a negative attitude has a twofold drawback. You feel bad about yourself, and you make others feel the same way.

If you want to have a positive attitude, you have to focus on healthy thoughts. In these modern times it’s harder than ever to do this, as all around us the media feeds us nothing but negative thoughts. A recent study shows that for every 14 things a parent says to his or her child, only 1 is positive. This is a truly saddening statistic.

If you want a healthier outlook on life, you need to think happy thoughts, and you have to hear positive things as well. So, what can you do? Well, for starters, you could see a funny movie, you could play with children, spend some time telling jokes with friends. All these activities fill you with positive stimuli, which in turn promotes positive attitude.

Although it is impossible to keep ourselves from the negative things around us, you can still carry a positive attitude by focusing on the good things, the positive things in life.

This positive attitude you now carry can be of benefit to other people. Sometimes when other people feel down, the thing people mostly do is try to give them advice. But sometimes, all they need is somebody to sit by them, and listen to them. If you have a positive attitude you may be able to cheer them up without even having to say anything.

If a positive attitude is really so great, why do people choose to adopt a negative attitude instead? One who carries a negative attitude may be actually sending a signal for attention. Don’t misunderstand me, feeling sad, angry, or gloomy is not wrong in itself. But dwelling on these thoughts for too long is not healthy either. There is a time to mourn.

As always, if you are beset by troubles, even in your darkest hour, focus on the good things in life, you will always have hope. Problems become something you can overcome, and life seems so much better.

You do not have much to lose by adopting a healthy, positive attitude. Studies show that such an attitude actually slows down the ageing process, makes you healthier, helps you develop a better stress coping mechanism, and has a very positive effect on all the people you meet every day. So, what’s not to like about a positive attitude? Adopt one today.

Starting Point For Acquiring Riches

October 20th, 2008 admin 1 comment

The book, “Think and Grow Rich” published in 1938 by Napoleon Hill states, “… desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.”

Well, guess what - he was wrong. Let me explain! We have two basic divisions of the brain - conscious and nonconscious. The conscious brain thinks and reasons. It is the part through which we exercise free will. Conscious mind impulses travel at 120 to 140 miles per hour, process 2,000 bits of information per second and remember about 30 seconds. We set goals, judge results and design new beliefs here.

Nonconscious mind impulses, on the other hand, travel at speeds of over 100,000 miles per hour, process 400 billion bits per second and remember forever. It is here that we hold our beliefs!! There are no judgments of value or results. The conscious mind provides the goals that the nonconscious mind executes.

Now get this! One of the greatest discoveries of neurological research is the conscious brain controls only 2 to 4 percent of our actual perceptions and behaviours. 96 to 98 percent of our behaviours are automatic!!

Established beliefs are self-fulfilling because “synaptic tracks” are formed neurologically in our brains from our past thought habits. These habits are thousands of times stronger than our desires. That explains why we set goals and don’t reach them. The conscious mind sets them. Reaching them is a function of the nonconscious mind!

Having an obsessive mindset about attaining riches will work well - for a few minutes! But conscious thoughts are hard to sustain. To have the life you want, it will be necessary to change those habits and beliefs that interfere with your success. This will require imprinting the non-conscious mind. Our conscious mind power - our will and imagination -allows us to choose what we think. We must then focus and implement techniques to imprint on the non-conscious mind. From that imprint, we then form our habits of thought or beliefs. Making up our mind (both consciously and non-consciously) sets the inevitable in motion. As the song goes, “Nothing can stop us now!”

3 Habits For Wealth and Success - Life Success Series

October 10th, 2008 admin No comments

You control your destiny and your ability to achieve life success. If your goal is to achieve great wealth, you can have it. If you want to become a leader at your job, you can be it. If you just want to travel the world and not have to worry about making money, you can do that as well.

It is difficult to define life success because it varies from person to person. Only you can determine the value of a great accomplishment and whether or not you succeeded. Regardless what it is that you want to achieve, it is possible.

And that’s the first habit for producing great wealth and experiencing incredible success in your life. By believing in yourself and actually having 100 percent certainty that you will achieve your goals, you put yourself at a great advantage. When your belief is so strong, reaching your goals almost become effortless. That’s because you’ve already convinced your mind that you’ve achieved your goals. You’ve thought about what it will feel like and how your life has changed, and you prepare for that change. As a result, your manifest your own ability to succeed.

But without having our second habit to achieve life success - incredible desire - nothing will change. Think of it this way. How many people do you know that do not like their jobs? Of those people, how many of them constantly complain and remind you how much they dislike their jobs? Of those people, how many of them actually do something about it?

Without action, everything stays at rest. But when you have an irresistible desire to achieve your goal, there’s nothing that can get in your way. People can try to stop you, slow you down and prevent you from reaching your goal, but you’ll just run right over them. When your desire to achieve is so strong, even failure cannot stop you. It will just make you get right back up and try again.

Which brings us us to the third habit to achieve great wealth and success in your life. That is to respect failure. Sales professionals have this thing where they believe each “no” they hear is closer to a “yes.” Failure is the same way. Each time you fail, you learn something from that experience and you become better, stronger and faster. Everything comes with practice, and when you understand that failure is a crutch that can help you succeed, you’ll achieve more.

But there’s a real secret to life success that I’m waiting to tell you. If you really want to achieve your goals, create more wealth and have a successful life, you will not want to miss this video. Watch the full clip by going to http://www.mmhabits.com/secret-to-life-success

Live Abundantly On Less

October 10th, 2008 admin No comments

As the pundits and media make daily dire predictions about the economy, the environment, gas prices - a real “The sky is falling” mentality - take a moment and re-group. Yes, these are economic dark days, but you do not have to be paralyzed by the ‘”what ifs” and other fears…Use these tips to create balance and reignite good intentions and prosperity in your life today…

1. Go outside. The leaves are turning and a new season is upon us. Sometimes in Autumn we drift back into old patterns, we may unconsciously horde things as to be ready for the winter or fall into “not enough” behaviors and thinking…This is a normal transition from the summer - a season of plenty - to fall, a seemingly odd mix of both abundant harvest and death. Instead of focusing on what is lost, shift your perspective. When I see the leaves falling - I imagine gold and ‘good things’ falling into my life and all those around me. I notice the plants that suffered in the hot, hot summer, now bloom with radiate color. I become a witness on my daily walks of this changing season as it gently quiets with colder days and early frost. I remind myself of the magic in the long, dark nights ahead and think of myself in a cozy cocoon. This quiet slumber only lasts a few months, warmer days will come again.

2. Bring the outside in - bulbs and potted plants. You know those beautiful pots of flowers/plants on your deck/porch/patio from the summer - bring them inside before the frost comes and brighten up the inside of your home.* Suddenly your living spaces will feel invigorated with healing energy and thriving growth. You may even get a new idea or two…

Flower bulbs are another one of my favorites for both outside and inside the home. I adore planting daffodils (naturalizing flower - multiplying flowers every year) in my perennial garden for Spring flowers and inside - paper whites and amaryllis. In mid-October, I begin planting a new pot of bulbs every few weeks - hence I have flowers blooming all winter. This constant blooming of fresh energy and color is a great comfort during the winter, reminding me of the quivering springtime just beyond the bend…

*(Note to self - Before bringing the plants in the house, you may want to spray or let the pots sit in your garage for a few days to be rid of spiders, ants and other insects that my have found a summer home in your pots.)

3. Pick a hobby - a friend in college and I would get together to “stitch ‘n’ bitch” or for the layman - cross-stitch sewing. I paint today and I used to quilt. The reason a hobby works so well at reducing stress is you can slip into a kind of “limbo-time.” Your thoughts drift away as you focus on counting or color or measuring…In this suspended time, you become your best self. Your ego falls away and you create from within. You are in the flow. By activating and stimulating creativity you not only positively affect your prosperity and well-being, but you also enhances your sex life. Need I say more?

4. Smells like comfort - cooking. I know everyone tells you to save money and eat in, which is true, but you also gain more quality time with your family or roommate and eat healthier. Find a cook book of 30-minute recipes or discover the mother of all inventions - crock pot! The trick in cooking is following the recipes in the beginning and timing. You will be shocked to discover how easy and fun it can be. If you still are strapped for time during the week - make a big pot of chili or roast on the weekend and freeze single servings for later in the week.

5. Volunteer. Whether at your children’s school, homeless shelter or library it always feels good to give back. By defining yourself as someone who gives through your deeds and words you activate the highest good within yourself. When you connect to your highest self, you radiate positive energy. Maybe you have even noticed in the past while you volunteer, children and older folks are more drawn to you? Your positive energy attracts more into your life and creates new opportunities.

6. Laughter. Watch funny movies, connect with friends or read any David Sedaris book and laugh out loud. Why? It feels good and lightens your mood. Life can be a real pisser sometimes, but I swear, a little humor goes a long way.

7. Manifesting and meditating. By taking just a few moments every day to center yourself with three cleansing breaths and imagining in your mind’s eye “that which you desire” - well, these are the first steps to manifesting the life you long for. Start today, and begin seeing yourself attaining that which you desire…How does it feel? How does this affect your life for the better? Feel “that which you desire” is already in your life today. Through this process, you begins to integrate your outside desire into your real life slowly, almost effortlessly at times. Try it for a week, just a few minutes before you fall asleep and witness the abundant surprises coming your way…

Much of living an abundant life is about shifting your perception to one of expansion and plenty. It is not about focusing on what you don’t like in your life, but what you do like - thereby expanding your possibilities. Whatever you focus your attention on expands, thus by changing your focus, you change your life.
